What exactly is He Got Up?
The event will take place at Camping World Stadium on Palm Sunday 2017 (April 9th) and include a community resource fair that provides those in need with training, job-readiness and employment opportunities, medical and dental screenings, legal services, and connections to other agencies and organizations that can offer other resources and assistance for self-sustainability. Fun activities for all ages, live entertainment and food and drinks will be provided at concession stands for all attending at no cost. Transportation to and from the event also will be provided at no cost to attendees.
Is this a one-time event?
He Got Up is not a one and done event. There will be strategic referral services and a detailed follow-up process to help those in need progress toward self-sustainability.
Has this been done before?
While there have been a number of events that have provided a one-stop shop, comprehensive delivery of services that have taken place throughout our nation, there’s been nothing of this scale (30,000 people) attempted. The closest would be the series of Project Homeless Connect events that started in San Francisco in 2004 and have since been replicated in more than 200 cities across the U.S., as well as in Australia and Canada.
What is the vision of the event?
While there have been a number of events that have provided a one-stop shop, comprehensive delivery of services that have taken place throughout our nation, there’s been nothing of this scale (30,000 people) attempted. The closest would be the series of Project Homeless Connect events that started in San Francisco in 2004 and have since been replicated in more than 200 cities across the U.S., as well as in Australia and Canada.
What is the goal?
Our mission is two-fold.
To demonstrate love for our neighbors and to lift more Central Floridians out of poverty and homelessness by connecting them with a host of resources that will help lead them down the path to self-sustainability; and to serve as a catalyst for collaboration between the public and private organizations and agencies that provide homeless services across the tri-county area.
How will you track outcomes?
Outcomes are a vital component we’ll use to refine the model that can be leveraged in other communities. Specifically, we will track
• the number of people who attend the event
• the number of people who take advantage of the range of services offered at the event
• the number of referrals that are made to outreach organizations
• the number of people who follow up with the outreach organizations
• the progress of the attendees over the course of the next year.
What will change?
This event is the start of an ongoing public/private collaboration to leverage existing resources to assist families and individuals in need or homeless with a path to self-sustainability.
Government leaders, agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, faith based organizations, educational institutions and community volunteers will work together to provide a cohesive solution for these families and individuals.
Aren’t you just duplicating services that already exist?
“He Got Up” is not about creating another homeless program. Rather it utilizes existing programs and services from the public and private sectors and leverages resources to achieve a sustainable, holistic solution. “He Got Up” is a first of a kind initiative that can be a transferrable model for other communities as well.
Aren’t you competing with organizations that already provide services that support the homeless population in the area?
He Got Up is not in competition with any of the marvelous Central Florida organizations and initiatives that are generously and compassionately working to end homeless in our community.

Why Camping World Stadium?
Camping World Stadium is centrally located and offers the logistical features needed to accommodate the attendees, services, and activities.
What prompted this event?
Tim Johnson, senior pastor for Orlando World Outreach Center, is the driving force behind He Got Up. Concerned with the growing number of crises and division in communities across the United States, Johnson felt called to create an event that would unite Central Florida by bridging the divide between the haves and have-nots in our community.
An inaugural event, Pastor Johnson believes He Got Up will provide as many as 30,000 homeless and families in need across the Orange, Osceola and Seminole tri-county area with employment opportunities, food, clothing, medical and dental screenings, and legal services.
According to a 2013 federal study, when compared to other areas of its size, Orange, Seminole and Osceola Counties combined to rank first for chronically homeless people. But as the news program 60 Minutes has highlighted, those numbers do not factor the additional families that live day-to-day in area hotels.
“The homeless numbers are staggering, but the need extends beyond the homeless,” Johnson said. “The greatest poverty in our society is being unwanted, unloved and uncared for. Our goal with He Got Up is to address this incredible need in Central Florida by demonstrating our love for our neighbors in a dignified way by showing them we care through this day of celebration and service that addresses many of their spiritual and material needs in one location.”
